Abstract This work mainly concentrates on the optimization of cubic and bistable nonlinear energy sink (NES) to find maximum efficiency point under harmonic excitation. The conservative system is considered reveal inner property damping system. With application multiple scales method complex variables method, threshold excitation different response regimes are distinguished assumption 1:1 resonance. NES occurs when strongly modulated disappears. factors that affect optimal limit explored. result indicates absorption level determined by parameters. Compared with case, case involves more in terms chaos oscillation. influence parameters discussed adopt levels. help analytical predictions, proper stiffness for certain study offers some fundamental insights into design NES.
